British anthropologist Edward Burnett Tylor defined culture as "Culture or civilization, taken in its wide ethnographic sense, is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society."(4) Some amount of knowledge can be thought of as the product of a culture, including a business culture. In this sense knowledge is not restricted to the individual but is rather the collective wisdom of the crowd. Building on the previous concept of implicit knowledge, this appears to be an area where such condition occurs to develop that type of knowledge. Collective knowledge found from cultures can often include good manners and education, for example.

Using functional neuroimaging(3) it is possible to see which areas of the brain are in use for particular thoughts or emotions. Damage to the brain (accidental or through surgery) can alter the thought patterns and personality of a person, lending credence to the assertion that knowledge is a manifestation of a physical system.

    The Physical View
Knowledge is often referred to be residing in books, or by extension, any form of recording apparatus from computer hard drives to the written word. It is hard to deny this viewpoint as we have all learned from reading textbooks or reference books, watching educational video programs, or listening to recorded lectures or podcasts.

    ...
Knowledge can be thought of as a synthesis of information. It begins with data, or facts, which then is interpreted into information, and from information, we can derive an understanding of that information, commonly referred to as knowledge of a subject.
A person constructs knowledge by processing the information they receive from their five senses and recording it inside their brain through a combination of memory and reasoning. They can learn things directly by direct experimentation (plucking a string of a guitar makes a certain sound), by digesting information from some where else (watching a movie, reading a book) or be taught by someone.
Within a business knowledge creation is a social construct through activities as part of a business process. Not only is there "learning by doing" but exposure to the process can lead to more efficient methods and may even spark innovation. This newly created knowledge begins as innate knowledge and is exclusive to the individual or group that created it. The process of externalizing that information so that it can be passed on can be difficult either because the information is complex or only useful in certain contexts, or simply because holding that knowledge can provide power to the employee(s) and keep them secure in their jobs.
    Passing along knowledge
Teaching someone is not just recording it into information and giving it to a person, or it's close analogue of a one way lecture. It's an active process where you actively assist someone in the 'digestion' of information. You observe where they have problems, assist them by explaining things in more detail or more simply to them, or physically guide them in the case of physical skills. Often you have to get out of the way and let them reason and experiment with information themselves. A tutor is like a personal information learning assistant, while a teacher or professor is like a managerial version of tutor. A teacher is responsible for leading a group of learners, determining what information they will presented about next, to track progress and unfortunately give out compensation in the form of grades. They are even responsible for firing (failing grades) and promotions (exceptional grades).

    Is Knowledge Misused?

is misused. Knowledge isn’t misused all the time although. When a person withholds specific details that can cause disagreements, hurt feelings, or mislead others, this would be an abuse of knowledge. Similarly in statistics, one can mislead people with numbers and facts by leaving out important factors. Benjamin Disraeli once said "There are three types of lies:lies, damned lies and statistics."
Knowledge is also being familiar or acquainted with facts, truths, or principles, either from studies or from investigations of that particular topic or branch of learning. Knowledge can be gained by sight, experience, exposure, or report. For example a person can learn and see what inconveniences there are to have a broken leg without having to experience and live the pain by listening to the story of another person who has.

Information may be available in books, but knowledge is the extraction of information that comes about from the absorption of books. Similarly, knowledge can be found in the unlikeliest of places, such as in nature or interactions between humans and nature or human to human. Knowledge may be potentially available in books, but it is far from exclusive to the dispensation of knowledge.

a car. In the same vein, you do not need to know how to repair a car to perform its basic function of driving it. Likewise, you may know how to repair an automobile but that dosn't necessarily mean you will have the ability to drive the vehicle. The varying of skills and understandings often result in different types of knowledge but often there can be overlap.
Understanding is closely related to knowledge. A good metaphor for understanding something is trying to record some information on a piece of paper that is hard to write on. If someone doesn't understand something, then it hasn't been recorded properly and the knowledge in their brain is incomplete or unclear. If someone understands something, then it is written clearly. Understanding is also related to the amount of knowledge that someone has about specific topic, and having a deep understanding of something often implies having a lot of knowledge about a topic or knowing things about a topic that is often hard to 'record' onto the brain.

However there have been many instances through history where entire bodies of what was commonly held to be truthful knowledge has been discredited by modern science. An example might be Astrology, which despite some proponents is generally dismissed as false by modern society. Even so, a person could be said to have a knowledge of Astrology even by someone who held that the knowledge was false.
